We are pleased to announce that Shane Happach has been appointed as our new CEO. Happach comes from Worldpay, where he served as EVP and Head of Global eCommerce.
Before joining Mollie, Happach spent more than ten years at Worldpay, first as Chief Commercial Officer of the e-commerce division, then promoted to EVP and Head of Global eCommerce. He was part of Worldpay’s executive team when the company went public in London. He was also involved in the acquisitions of both Vantiv and FIS. Previously, Happach worked at GlobalCollect – which was acquired by Ingenico in 2014 – in business development roles in the Americas and EMEA.
Mollie is more than a traditional PSP
“For the past 15 years I’ve helped some of the biggest brands in the world process payments. These large players are very interesting for traditional PSPs, whose business models are mainly price and volume driven. But in Europe this approach works much less well; merchants here need more support and collaboration with the PSP,” says Happach. “At Mollie, they stand for a completely different approach, which is in line with that. The people here are also available for merchants without large payment infrastructure departments, employees to deal specifically with abandoned shopping carts or securing customer data. These merchants need the help of their payment service provider, whose main task should be to help customers grow. That is why I am excited to lead Mollie and fully participate in product innovation and expansion throughout Europe.”
“It was an exciting seven months for Mollie, with our strong growth, expansion in the UK and now the arrival of Shane,” said Adriaan Mol, founder of Mollie. “Shane ‘gets it’. He understands the problems with the current PSP model. And he understands what Mollie can do to adapt these issues and simplify complex financial services so that businesses can grow. Shane made an impressive contribution – 500 percent – to WorldPay’s growth. We know he is the right person to drive Mollie’s international expansion and ensure that our product innovation meets the new demands of Mollie’s more than 110,000 customers in Europe.”
Happach succeeds Gaston Aussems, who was CEO of Mollie between 2013 and mid-2020. He will start on April 1, 2021 and has been formally appointed by Mollie’s Supervisory Board. His appointment has been confirmed by De Nederlandsche Bank.
