Mollie was founded by entrepreneur Adriaan Mol, and our success is grounded in his approach to doing business. It all started when he was 16 years old. Then, he noticed that processing payments could be unreasonably expensive to small businesses while the big companies had it good: they could negotiate better terms because of their size. Adriaan also saw that integrating payment products in a webshop was super complex, to say the least. His vision and experience mean that he understands better than anyone that entrepreneurs greatly benefit from solutions that take work out of their hands. Since he first began, it’s been his goal to use the best technology to make the easiest payments available to all businesses.

1. No lock-in contracts
We don’t do lock-in contracts at Mollie. We think this is an outdated approach used to bind clients to you for long periods of time. And that’s the thing: we want you to stay with us because you’re happy with us, not because you can’t leave. At the same time, because every single one of our clients could be gone tomorrow, we’re continually improving our product.
You can see our neverending efforts to refine things in our checkout, which offers your clients a pretty cool user experience. In fact, our rates are pretty awesome.
2. Transparent and honest rates
At Mollie, we think that the rates you pay for our services should be transparent and honest. You, as an entrepreneur, should be completely aware of what you’re getting into. This means we also don’t have any hidden costs. You can create an account for free. There are no setup fees. No rolling reserve. All you pay is a very competitive rate for successful transactions.
In fact, our rates are so competitive that in the Netherlands and Belgium all other payment providers followed suit and significantly reduced the standard rates for the most popular payment methods. This is the type of thing every entrepreneur can benefit from, not just our merchants.
The idea that every entrepreneur should benefit has its origin in a decision our founder made. He thought that entrepreneurs were paying way too much for a payment product that, from a technical point of view, was long overdue. So, we lowered the rate for an iDEAL transaction from €0.99 to €0.29 and for a Bancontact transaction from €0.25 + 1.8% to a flat rate of just €0.39. This move wasn’t appreciated by others in the payment industry, but we’re not here to make friends: we’re here to serve entrepreneurs.

3. Human contact
Since we’ve been there for entrepreneurs from day one, we also understand that they’re not usually technical experts. Because of this, we do everything we can to make our product as easy as possible to use. That’s why you can activate all of our payment methods in a single click in your Mollie Dashboard. Yet, we can imagine that sometimes you may want more information. Naturally, you can find a wealth of guides on our website, but sometimes human contact is what you need.
