Mollie unveils Saloua Essalhi as VP, Product for Payments

September 7, 2021

Mollie is excited to announce that the inspiring Saloua Essalhi is joining as our new VP of Product for Payments. She will be responsible for helping our product and engineering teams work hand-in-hand, scaling our platform and product portfolio while ensuring we remain nimble and true to our core values.

Saloua joins Mollie from NN Bank, a financial services company active in 18 countries, where she was a Director helping the bank on its transformation journey. Saloua was focused on customer engagement and leveraging new opportunities like open banking and PSD2 (legislation designed to improve customer authentication processes). Prior to this, Saloua was with ING for more than eight years rising to head of cards for ING home markets.

At Mollie, Saloua is putting a prime focus on further developing our payments product offering to support the growth of our customers across Mollie’s international markets. She plans on creating the perfect marriage between product design and technology, enabling a world class product culture.

“To be the most loved PSP in the world is a purpose that comes from the heart. The team’s obsession with serving a desperately underserved market is truly inspirational. And the culture of striving for the optimum and never settling for ‘good enough’ speaks to my core values.”

Saloua first encountered Mollie two years ago and has had the opportunity to meet several fantastic Mollies already. She is excited to help fulfill Mollie’s tremendous potential sustainably and with our shared purpose at the heart of everything:

“A small, artisan jeweller shouldn’t be spending their time worrying about payments, receipts, reconciliations and paying back loans. They should be focusing on their craft and growing their business. There’s a power, a responsibility and a lot of privilege in serving those that the world’s largest banks and payments companies deem too small, too insignificant to support. I’ve been searching for a place that I truly belong, where I can be at my very best. I’ve found pockets of this in previous roles, but nothing like what I’ve glimpsed with Mollie.”

We’ve been expanding our leadership team throughout the year with the appointments of Shane Happach (CEO), Rogier Schoute (Chief Product Officer), Julien Cordonnier (Chief Operations Officer), Susan Wilson (Chief Human Resources Officer) and Joe Katz (Chief Financial Officer), and Célie Verstelle (Chief Legal Compliance Officer).
