46% of growing companies face competitors copying their offerings

The more successful your company becomes, the greater the chance that other players will want to capitalize on your success. Some growing companies find that competitors are even copying their products. Almost half of the companies in our research (46%) have encountered competitors more frequently offering customers similar products since their growth spurt.

The advice from Belgian online organic food store Pit&Pit? Stay true to your unique company values and differentiate yourself from the competition by delivering top quality. But also recognize that competitors contribute to the growing attention to your product offering. Pit&Pit CEO Sven Van Gucht strongly believes in ‘co-construction’ around healthy food: “Competitors are everywhere, but other players in our segment contribute to the increasing focus on healthy food. Sooner or later, their customers will also end up on our site.”

67% struggle with attracting and retaining qualified staff

Employees are the backbone of a growing company. Their skills, motivation, and engagement have a direct impact on your company’s ability to grow effectively.

As a company expands, it needs more employees and expertise. And that’s where the challenge often lies. Two out of three growing companies (67%) struggle with attracting and retaining qualified staff in the competitive job market. Yet, you need talent to drive your company’s growth. How do you address this?

Growing company Pit&Pit consciously chose senior profiles. CEO Sven Van Gucht explains this strategy: “In a rapidly growing company, it is often difficult to provide new starters with the right support and foster their personal growth. 26% have no idea which new technologies could make their company more efficient

Another theme we frequently see in our research is IT. Over a quarter of the surveyed professionals (26%) indicate that their company’s current IT infrastructure is not capable of supporting further growth.

Whether it’s outdated software systems, applications that don’t communicate with each other, or insufficient memory: a deficient IT infrastructure can hinder efficiency. It inevitably impacts employee performance (and thus the company’s results).

Companies looking to upgrade their systems often don’t know where to start. A quarter of our respondents have no idea which technologies could make their processes more efficient. A lack of IT knowledge seems to be a recurring issue among growing companies. Should you then seek a partner?

Perhaps Pit&Pit CEO Sven Van Gucht’s tip will inspire you: “At Pit&Pit, we work with both SaaS systems and software we have developed ourselves. When we need new systems, we use the ‘test fast, fail fast’ strategy: we try different things but also quickly stop them if they don’t work for us. My advice: test external software solutions, evaluate whether they meet your expectations or if you should build them yourself. This saves you a lot of time, problems, and costs in the long run.”
