Powersheds isn’t your average garden building retailer. They specialise in high-quality, modular wooden structures sold both direct-to-consumer and through marketplace giants like Wickes and Wayfair.

However, as they migrated to Shopify to support their rapid scaling, they hit a significant roadblock: inflexible payment systems and high transaction fees that threatened their margins and compromised their premium customer experience. The Challenge

For Powersheds, the checkout is more than just a payment gate. It’s a logistics hub that plays a crucial role in organising deliveries.

When you’re selling a log cabin, you can’t just drop it on a driveway and hope for the best; customers need to be at home. To manage this, Powersheds used a custom-built app to handle nominated delivery dates.

But their previous setup created a friction point:

  • Missing delivery information: If they enabled digital wallets, the express ‘pay now’ button would skip the delivery date selector.

  • High ecosystem fees: Staying within the standard Shopify payment ecosystem was becoming unsustainable for them as they exceeded £17 million in turnover.

  • Disjointed user experience: As a headless, high-end site, they needed a checkout that felt like a natural extension of their brand, not a generic redirect.

This is where Mollie’s branded checkout page came into play. The redirected payment page provided a seamless, customer-friendly experience that integrates delivery scheduling without sacrificing payment flexibility or their premium brand feel.

The implementation was fast. From account creation to approval, the process took less than 24 hours. And the actual technical integration? Just 30 minutes.

This preserved the logistics flow while finally giving customers the double-click payment ease they expected.

By implementing a tailored redirect solution, they successfully unlocked Apple Pay and Google Pay, which now account for 6% of total payments*, without bypassing critical delivery scheduling.
