Requirements
Before you create your WooCommerce store, you should make sure that your hosting provider meets the technical requirements. These include a current version of PHP and MySQL as well as HTTPS support. You also need an SSL certificate and a WordPress installation. The CMS can be installed in various ways, for example manually via SSH or, with most hosting providers, simply via a one-click installer. If your host meets the technical requirements and you have completed the WordPress installation, you can create your WooCommerce store.

Customize design and layout
Even before you create your WooCommerce store, switch to a WooCommerce-compatible theme with your WordPress installation. For optimal results, it's worth installing a theme such as Astra, OceanWP, Hello Elementor or Storefront now. To do this, go to Design and Themes and select a WooCommerce-compatible theme. In our example, we have opted for Hello Elementor. Install and activate it.
This theme can be easily customized with the Elementor page builder in the Pro version without any programming knowledge, so that your WooCommerce store later corresponds to your brand image. Initially, it is sufficient to install the theme without making any individual adjustments.

WooCommerce comes from the USA and is geared towards the local market. When operating a WooCommerce store, certain legal requirements must be met, especially with regard to WooCommerce security and the protection of your customers' data. This includes compliance with data protection regulations such as the GDPR in the EU, which imposes strict guidelines on the processing of personal data. This is one of the reasons why we advised you above to install Germanized when creating a WooCommerce store.
However, payment processes must also be secure and designed in accordance with legal requirements. Mollie offers comprehensive security measures to protect payment transactions. These include encryption technologies and compliance with the Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard (PCI DSS). Find out more about the current PSD3 directive, which further strengthens security in electronic payment transactions, and about Mollie's general security measures.
